Hand Embroidered Kashmiri Vest
Kashmir is world-renowned for its unique, authentic and intricate hand embroideries. Stitches and techniques vary, as do the names for these, but a general name for Kashmir embroidery is Kashida. A centuries’ old art, Kashida is one of the oldest forms of embroidery in India. Hand embroidery, in eye catching colours, designs and variations adorn blankets, pashminas, shawls, jackets, bedspreads and other clothing and home decor items on different fabrics such as cotton, wool, silk and linen.
The geographical location and climate of Kashmir sees people in the region use blankets, wool fabrics and covers for much of the year. Hand embroideries on such items require hours of manual labour and approximately 20 years for artisans to master their techniques.
